Virtual Refrigerator- Patterns in African Art

This week the kids and I took a look at African cloth and
the patterns with in those materials.

We took four large what pieces of paper and painted them one solid
color. The children chose the traditional African colors of the
cloth we were learning about which is black, red, green and yellow.

We cut their papers and then began weaving the paper in a pattern
of their choice. Sweet Peas is on the top of the photo and Spirit's
is the bottom. He started out like Sweet pea but didn't want his
exactly the same as hers so he changed his pattern.

We also went around the house in search of items we could
use to stamp out a pattern. The kids choose lids, a toothbrush,
lego, and a magic marker. Then they stamped patterns with
in each square. This is Spirits below.

And Sweet Peas (4) She was more interested in the clean up
and washing than painting.

We hope you join us in sharing your art on the Virtual Refrigerator.
