Imaginative Play

This week for Toddler time I created a no sew Tutu for "Sweet Pea"
She is a girly girl for sure. She loves everything pink and purple and girly.
Check how much this little girl has changed from August when her toddler
time photo was taken to now. wow!!

The hardest part about tulle is cutting it to begin doing the knots. The knots themselves
hardly took anytime. It was the cutting. Sweet Pea was there the entire process.
She helped me lay out the tulle onto the floor. She with scraps in hand ,pretended
to cut the tulle with her hands making hand scissors. As I knoted she sat and
pretended to knot with her scrap pieces. She does whatever I do. I have to really
watch at this stage what I say and do. She still sort of mimes more than she
speaks out but it is getting clearer. If you don't understand her she relys on it.
These acting out of activities are important for her growth.
My favorite directions for the no sew was found at My little smelly butt blogspot.
She has found a u -tube video that takes you step by step on how to cut.
If you'd like to make your own. I'd like to try again. I bought rather thin
tulle . I used two pieces in each knot. It turned out cute but it clings and
gathers very easily to the other knots. I am wondering if I try something a little
thicker but not to thick that its scatchy if it would be less clingy.
Later I found this at Treasures for tots on an easy way to cut tulle.  Wish
I had found it sooner.
For Sweet peas tot basket this week. I began creating her dress up box dramatic
play. She has some pocketbooks of various colors, plastic bracelets, her tutu,
a blue sun bonnet pappy brought her from the avon lady. :) Little by little we are
creating a fun playbox for her. I wish I could locate the older girls box. That is
a dream box of dress up from all the girls dance eras.
Brother got in on the action...

Our finger Plays and songs this week:

Little Girl Ready for Bed.

Three Little fingers in a Pocket book
Three little nickels in a pocketbook new,

hold up three fingers

One bought a peppermint, and then there were two,

bend down one finger

Two Little nickels before the day was done,

One bought an ice cream come, and then there was one

bend down another finger

One little nickel I heard it plainly say,

"I'm going into the piggy bank for a rainy day!"

and a lot of dancing going on....

St. Patricks Day Book list and Readers

Today I wanted to share a list of St. Patricks Day books and a few
links to beginner readers that you can print out. It is always fun to
read something new. You can find most of these books at your local
library or bookstores. These particular books come from
I was gifted a Nook for Christmas this year so I am always shopping books on
Amazon. Love it. So this is sort of a St. Paddys Day wishlist.
I love the idea of the Old Lady who swallowed a clover. I had no
idea this exsisted. I think that Old Lady swallows just about anything.

I love Gail Gibbons book! They are resources for the Young and
very through on her topics. I have the Halloween book. Would love
to add this one to the collect. However for young children I prefer
The actual picture book compared to the Nook version. Something
about holding a book while you read. Enough of our world is

This sounds like the cutest story ever. Another great one
by Jan Brett. James wakes early on St. Patricks day to
find his families things layed out for the great St. Pattys day
Parade. He is told he can not go because it is to far for him.
He treks up the hill all on his own to say good morning to the sun.

We have checked this one out from our local library before.
it has the celtic feeling throughout the book. Good read.

Leprechauns Make mischief and that is just what these fellows do.
Would be a fun story to go along with some mommy mischief as
a Pattys day surprise. (wink)

Magic School House are always aweome stories.
A Great way to introduce your child to Irish Lore.

Always looking for new fun crafty things to do with the children.
These look like fun finds. I would like it more if I could
take a peek inside the book . Might have to search for these
at Borders so I can give them a hold in the hand look.

My little guy is just beginning to read. Below you will find links to some
Emergent Readers to print or read online.

Involving Teens and St. Patricks Day hunt

If you have a teenager in the house than you probably get your share
of eye rolls and the look that says "Mom your embarrassing me"
When a teen has younger siblings it can be hard to include them in
a particular activity. Majority of the time you have to separate your
time and activities to accommodate older children. If your lucky they
will enjoy playing with younger siblings and want to be involved. It's fun
to play with something again even if you aren't supposed to according to your age.
Isn't that how most traditions keep going. Parents want to relive their favorite
childhood memories and pass them along because they were so much fun.

This St. Patricks day Activity will be a new tradition at our house and I can
include my teen . Who doesn't like little gifts anyway? This card will be place
by each of my children beds . I signed it Patty Ohh so I can use the
pun with oreo's and peppermint patty's. This is what the card
reads in case you cant see it well.

Happy Saint Patrick's Day to you. Someone in your home
wants you to know how special you are to them. So they
were kind enough to send you a Leprechaun. Leprechauns are
lucky you know . St. Patricks day is on March 17th. You will
find 7 special notes or treats to get you through the day. Your
packages will have a special marks so you know they are yours.
Check the back of this card . If you find someone else's shh
don't tell just quietly place them back in their hiding spot . No
need to hunt just go about your day as usual.

Signed  Patty Ohhh

Below are the cards I created to identify each child's treats or letters.
There are 10 of each printable. I left them blank so you can create your
own special messages to your child. I thought I might hand write them
so they would mean more. I also wanted to be able to simplify the notes
for my young children and write longer more meaningful notes to the older
children. I have four children so I created 4 cards. If you have more than
four children message me and I'll make you a few more. They are very
simple to do.

My plan is to leave simple messages some with little treats and some with just a
love message. The main card says there are 7 notes but on my sheet you can get
10. I know they will search for them so I wanted to hide a few they didn't know about
so that they find them through out the day. Here are some of my ideas:

1. Each of them has a special cup so I thought
I'd put one in them. They are very large starbucks mugs. Possibly
with a shamrock marshmallow or other small treat.

2.One on the page of their math book they will be working in that
day. We always start with math. Perhaps a sticker or pencil to go with it.

3. Each of them has separate lunch chores to do , so my plan is to hide one
among the supplies for that chore.

4. Another great place is attached to their favorite toy. My older
daughter has a special get ready spot in her upstairs bathroom with
her get ready needs inside. I plan to hide one in that cabinet.

5. Outside time will roll around at some point. Perhaps something in
their shoe.

6. Create a fun packed lunch today and brown bag it. Leave a patty's day
note and green jello inside

7. How about sneaking later up to their rooms and hiding one under their
pillow or on their pillows just before bed.

Other ideas... Special green soap or light in their bathtub
Under the sofa
On or with a pet
In their arts and craft tub

Just about anywhere have fun with it.

To Pin or Not to Pin...

The Pinning Craze has hit many.

I am In it over my head I'd say. I love pinterest. It is so easy
to organize ideas for school and home but alas there is
always trouble in wonderland. Take a peek at this site
about copyright issues. The area is so grey. It would be
really nice if pinterest would lay it out for the user but
I'm not sure they know what is or isn't exceptable themselves. It's all
new area on the web. Please read if you are a Pinning...

Do you have Permission to Pin? by Corkboard connections

By the way here at this site you do have...

Please do not pin photos of my children. I will make
sure there is a none child photo for you to pin if
you like an idea.
Make sure you link up to Corkboard Connections it will make
pinning so much easier.

I also read this today about Pinning and it made sense to me...

Pinterest and copyright by bloggingwithAmy

I agree with Amy. I went through today and it took a long time
deleting pins without a correct link. I'm not positive I have them
all so if you find something let me know. I did keep some pages without
the permission to pin but I feel if its correctly linked just as you
would a blog post than it should be ok. I am keeping my eyes on
this situation with Pinterest and at anytime I may resort to deleting
if I feel uncomfortable with whats going on. I did delete pins
that came from flicker images, google images, user uploads as there is no
source, etsy, stores, art, graphic art, and photography. I'm still
sort of mulling over teachers pay teachers. It is sort of a store.
If I were a teacher I'd want my product seen but I'm not the creator
it's not my decision. Any thoughts?

Trying to do the right thing and keep my new resource
for education.

We barely had any snow this year but we decorated inside anyway.
The kids created these milk jug snowmen. You can
find the orginal activity at Taking time for Mommy
I love that she put lights inside of hers to light them up. Perhaps
next year. Things are still a little mixed up around here after
moving in December. I know it will take awhile to feel organized.

I don't even feel organized on my blog or my writing. Toddler
time has unfortunately gone to the wayside. It's just one of
lifes unexpected things.

I'm over at pinterest pinning today.
