Good Old Abe Lincoln

The little ones watched this Abe Lincoln you Tube video for Presidents
day and Created these log cabins.

Check out all the Presidents day ideas on my pinboard.
There is enough there for several president days. :)

Mmmmm Poetry

"The Paddle dips,
Turn in the wake,
Pauses, Forward again
Water drips
From the blade to the lake"
Pieces of a lullaby from Jr. Great books

Reading is breathing. Breathing is reading. Without
one I'm not sure I have the other. The kids probably
would think I'm crazy. Sometimes I think ...What would
I do if I couldn't read anymore? I suppose I'd just

"A murmur now
Under the prow
Where rushes bow
To let us through"...
(Pieces of a lullaby from Junior great books)

A Child's lullaby so soothing so peaceful.

"No one's awake,
No One's awake
No one,
Not even
(Pieces of a lullaby from Junior Great books)

Our K-Assignment to create a list of peaceful places.

The boys and I came up with this list.

A massage parlor (superboy)
Shore (spirit)
woods (me)
our house (spirit, this one makes me smile)
night (spirit)
bed (me)
swing (me)
hole (spirit, if he were a mouse)
childrens sermon (spirit)
golfing (spirit)
books (me)
Grandmas house (me)
under my blanket (spirit)
Store (spirit, personally dislike shopping)
room with candles (superboy)
Our local seafood resturant (spirit)

Spirit was then to choose 2 and this is what he
came up with...

It is peaceful under my blanket.
No one is there and it is warm.

It is peaceful at the seafood resturant
Not many people come. Their food is good.

This is what else we were up to today. The sorting
of 1,000s of Easter eggs for our Fellowship at church.
Each year we wash them out, take off any tape,
check for cracks, fill them into ziplock bags for the
congregation to take home and fill. Then later we
hide and hunt them with our church families the
Saturday before Easter.

Hmm perhaps this is Sweet peas peaceful place.
It certainly isn't mine but it is soo
worth the smiles.

Prayers for the President

Politics is a scary word. You have to be afraid to
voice your opinion for fear it will be taken as
offensive. I think back to some of my children's history
lessons and realize that times haven't changed all
that much. Politics can still bring about war, anger and frustration. The complexity of it all is enough
to leave anyone exhausted and then we are to
teach it to our children so that they may not make
the same mistakes as or forefathers. Perhaps even mimic
the things that are not blemishes on the American record.
Teaching Government has not always been one of my
favorite topics but a look at the elementary level
still gives us the "Glow of American Freedom" You
are able to feel again that awe in knowing that
we are FREE compared to many others of God's family in
the world.

This week we are to come together to honor our
presidents old and new. Much has changed since those
times of Good old Abe Lincoln and George
Washington days. Our Children happen to know it.
They hear the things that people say about our
current president. They hear the disrespect we are
feeling when we do our taxes and pay the IRS. They hear
us belly ache and growl about this or that in America and
little by little we dim their lights of American Pride. Our problems in this world did not arise because one president
or another madea wrong choice. The decisions of this world
are not our own. It ispredetermined by God our father. We
are not to post Blame to them. Many good Christians worldwide
and my facebook friends often forget this.Times are hard for all but we are living what is to be God would have it
Not other way then for us to turn about and learn what we
can. I give you these two verses to ponder upon.
Titus 2:1 - 2

"Remind them to be subject to rulers, to authorities, to be obedient, to be ready for every good deed, to malign no
one, to be uncontentious, gentle, showing every
consideration for all men."

1 Peter 2:13-17

"Submit yourselves for the Lord's sake to every human
institution, whether to a king as the one in authority, or
to governors as sent by him for the punishment of evildoers
and the praise of those who do right. For such is the will
of God that by doing right you may silence the ignorance
of foolish men. Act as free men, and do not use your freedom
as a covering for evil, but use it as bondslaves of God.
Honor all men; love the brotherhood, fear God,
honor the king."

And so I bring you today's Craft for the kids......
Bring them together on this day in Prayer.

Teach them to honor our leaders. If you disagree at
times then Pray for wisdom. Pray for Gods will to be
done. Pray for financial stability of our country,
Pray forall people, Pray for our education , Choices
our law makers are making,Pray for our protection,
Laws and God leading hand.

Crafting instructions:

supplies needed:
Construction paper
Craft foam scraps
white paper
foam letters

1. Cut out a heart shape from construction paper.
2. Cut shape pieces from scraps of craft foam. I do this
when I'm finished with my craft foam right away into
our shape tub.
3. Find a silhouette online. You can find one
of Obama as well as others.
4. Trace over the shadow on your laptop. You can print
it out but I simply put a piece of white paper up
to my screen and gently traced the outline.
5. Glue to heart.
6. Cut stripes of paper, glue to back of hear
7. Add prayers to stripes with foam letters or write them.

*I gave the children a few words or phrases to get
them started. They can write the entire prayer on one
stripe or one word breath prayers.

1 Timothy 2:1-2

"First of all, then, I urge that entreaties and
prayers, petitions and thanksgivings be made on
behalf of all men, for Kings and all who are
in authority, in order that we may lead a tranquil
and quiet life in all godliness and dignity."

Moses Baby in a Basket

The children are learning about Super Heros of the Bible.
I hope to post all of their lessons but this was so fun I'm jumping in
with it. First we talked about what the word consequences means. How
are actions result in another action. We gave some examples
of bad consequences for example if you dont' brush you teeth
then the consequence is cavities. I also explained that sometimes
a consequence can result in something good too.

We read the story of Moses as a baby. I highlighted Miriam and
her mother as our Super hero this week. It took great courage
for them to stand against Pharoah and stand before God.

I created a river for baby moses and put a baby in a basket as
a visual. We read our two bible verses together . I then passed
around a trinket box. Inside were circle tags, wooden hearts
and river rocks. Each child got a sharpie marker as well.
They were to write how Mariam and her Mother felt at
the beginning of the story with Pharoahs Demands and then
again at different parts of the story. We gave our thoughts to
the river. The children really enjoyted this activity. More so
than I thought. Spirit was so proud that he wrote BAD on when
of the rocks and showed me he spelled it correctly.

Then we talked about the consequences of each action.

We made a baby in the basket snack. I wish I had a photo
for you but it came out blurry and the kids ate them all. We
made rice crispies with cocoa crispies an Idea from a dear friend.
Then formed them into baskets. Once they were in basket form
we added some super Hero gummies to the basket. (Thanks Jan
for the great idea)

We also told them that God shows us how great we are in other
ways to. We cut up some apples and showed them the star in
the middle and cut up some star fruit . It was a neat snack
to go with the story. I hope to share more of our bible Heros
lessons with you.

Ox Cart Man

This week Spirit and I read the story the ox cart man.
Spirit has been asking lately how clothing is made and has
an interest in the process.

The ox cart man is a story about a man and his family who work
hard all winter long to prepare homemade goods for market in
the spring. Once the man sells all of his wares he treks back
home to do it all again .

(I apologize for the sideways photo blogger isn't
cooperating. I resized and turned but it still is coming
In this way. Blogger keeps flipping it to the side)

Spirit created his own sheep with his hand print. Shown
above. This is a very simple craft but he has been having
difficulty with cutting more complex items so of course
Mom throws them in quit a bit. This had proved a challenge
For him but he got it after some instruction .

We also watched this U-tube video of sheep shearing.
This was a favorite and Spirit was upset when they didn't
show all the sheep.

This one whas all about spinning the wool to yarn.
less interesting to him but we talked about it and listened.

Honestly I think He'd like to do more with it so perhaps
in the future we will learn more about sheering sheep
when the shows start in the spring summer months.

Week 1 Feb.

Concept Basket:

For this weeks concept basket "Sweet Pea" was given a washed out
milk jug and math manipulatives. She can put the cubes together,
She can put them in the jug, she can try to shake them out, and
she has been screwing the lid on and off as well. Quit a challenge at
times but has kept her occupied much of the day.

This activity has kept some peace for school work to be done and
"Sweet pea is learning something in the mean time without realizing.

I saw this activity on Pinterest. You can find it
Rust and Sunshine . It was a hit with
Sweet pea. I did however use finger paints with
my toddler .This is just a suggestion for easy clean up.

Finger paint works just was well as poster paints
but with less mess. She can get it on her hands and it
comes right off. She did get it on the table and it
wiped right off.

I had some cut pieces of paper so we made heart
bookmarks for family.

We took a trip to the library and go these two books.

Duck and Goose How are you feeling by Tad Hills

and Little hands love -touch and feel book.

The little hands love book was a hit the duck book not
so much. The book tries to portray feelings and some of
the feelings are quite complex for a toddler but we liked the ducks.

Finger play:

If your happy and you know it

If your happy and you know it clap you hands
If you happy and you know it clap your hands
If your happy and you know then your face will
surely show it. If your happy and you know it
clap your hands.

(fill in different actions such as stomping feet.
smiling etc..)
