First Hair cut

Sweet Pea had her first hair cut by mom yesterday.
I have wanted to cut it for so long now but Dad said
oh please don't cut her hair. So I left it go. I tried
to explain how hard it would be to keep that long
hair from her eyes as a toddler but to no avail.
Finally last night he says I think Sweet pea does
need bangs and so we did.

(don't mind the messy shirt in the picture I figured
after the hair cut a bath was due. )

She looks just as sweet as she always does but now
I can clearly see her cute little face.

She sat oh so still while I cut it which actually really
surprised me. I sat her on top of the desk and dad
held on to her while I trimmed away. At times she'd
look down and through her hair trying to see what I was
doing . I think I got it pretty straight with such
a curious little one.

Tennis Ball SMASH

Supplies Needed:
15 cones for each team (30)
or you can use toilet or paper towel tubes
You could also use paper cups or soda cans.
Something to balance the tennis balls on.
Equal number of Tennis balls + 1 for each player

If playing with one child you could probably
have 6-8 cones or tubes and 6-8+1 tennis ball
or any ball that can balance on the tube.

Activity:

Have children line up the cones on each playing side.
They will balance one ball on top of each cone.
You can have a relay race to get the balls on the
cones and see which team gets them there the fastest.

Once the balls are all balanced. Children stand behind
their cones area, Each holding a tennis ball.
Children then throw the tennis ball into the cones to
try to make all of the opposing teams balls fall.
The winning team has all the balls down before the
other team.

If playing individually your child can try to get the
balls from the cones and then reset and play again.

Felt Snow

I cut these snowman pieces and snow flakes
from felt for Spirit to play with. The snow
flakes were a little hard to cut out with felt
but maybe you'd have better luck with a sharper
scissors. He enjoyed building his own indoor snowman.

Snowman game

These snowman printables came from Childcareland.com
Superboy played his with winter words. He picked a card
with a word on it. Then he was to read the card, spell it then
cover it with a bingo marker on his snowman card.

Spirit played the same game with ABC's. Each tried to
fill their Snowman with words or letters first.

Breath Prayers

Snow falls and drifts silently to the ground.
Is the beauty and silence unbreakable.
Your feet crunch in the snow as you head to your
car. Anxiety wells up as your eyes glance to the road.
Fear grips your heart but you press forward to get home
to your family. Longingly wanting to get to your JOY
your family and safety.

Driving in bad weather scares me at times but I
know that there are times I have to, to get
where I am going , to get home. Fear is something
I struggle with daily. Driving in the snow is a smaller
level of fear. I worry about everything even
though I know the words of our Father..

Matthew 6:25-34
Don't worry about your life, what you'll eat or
what you'll drink, or about your body, what you'll wear.

If you have read here before you know that I
have been trying this year to be positive and to
push those fears away living in the moment. On
Sunday last week I picked up the latest ALIVE
Issue. (which I rarely do) God must have known
I needed this issue.

In the January/February issue what do I find
but Articles about living in the present.
My favorites being This Moment is Holy
by Carol McCrea and A calm and
Quiet soul by J.K. West. You can visit
them at
www.alivenow.org

I have been trying to do just what Carol
McCrea has written about. I have been trying
to live in the moment. Trying to keep my mind
here in the now. I love how she calls these
simple moments Holy Moments.

I also liked the idea of creating a breath prayer.
I never thought to call it that. I call them
little reminders to myself. I don't know why
I didn't think to aim them in the direction
of my God. Typically they are under my breath
like be positive.. Be positive... Let God have
it... etc.. Breath prayer isn't new it's an ancient
practice to put prayer into your everyday life.

Breath prayers should be said until they become
a part of your breathing. Envision Jesus before
you asking what you need and think of the first
things that come to mind.

I love the one in the Alive magazine but I'm
not sure I can share it so I'll let you find the
magazine and read it yourself.

* My God my all my everything

*Jesus, Your will is my will

* Breath in faith, let go of Fear

* Let me ponder on You ,Lord
Not struggles

*Give me a Positive Heart, Let Negative Go

*All of You, All for You

Please leave me your Breath prayers.

Bean Bag Leg Tag

Supplies you will need:
-Bean bags for each child or
hacky sacks would do.

-10-12 cones or bowling pins

Recommended players :At least 6
Up to 15 on a team.

Goals:Hand eye coordination
Reflexes
Agility
Team playing

Personal notes:This game the kids absolutely love
because they all stay in play in some
shape. Games where they are all moving
and thinking are wonderful. The children
enjoy them more.

Set up your playing area with a dividing line
and a game area with enough running space
that children don't run into one another but
small enough to be gotten by a bean bag.

At the back of each play area set up cones
in a row.
How game is played:When the whistle is blown children try
to hit the feet or legs of the opponents team
with a bean bag. Specify the knee or below.

*Hint works great to slide the bag across
the gym floor

If a child is hit by the bean bag they head over
to the opponents side of the playing field and sit
behind the cones. They are in the out area.

While in "Out play" if a bean bag comes
to them they can get it and try hitting
their opponents legs from behind. They
may not get up from sitting position to get a bean
bag. If they get someone out they are released
back into play Or if a player from their team
knocks down one of the cones in front of them.

*If a cone is hit. Then the first player to be put
out of play gets to go back in play.

Game continues until all players of the opposing time
are "Out of play"

Fashion/ Paper dolls

The girls at Before Care wanted to have a fashion club.I tried and tried to think of what I could do with them for this
great idea and came up with paper dolls. Searching
the web I found these Paper dolls at Skip to my Lou.

We used sequins and glitter to decorate them. They even
tired some glitter glues. (Note you have to watch
glitter glues as the outfits tend to roll up some)

I was lucky to find scrapbook paper at our local Big
lots for only $5. The girls went to town sharing and
using the patterned papers. Some of them drew
outfits on paper to in sketchbooks.

Nikki

I printed them out on card stock and cut them out.
Each of the 5 girls got 4 dolls each in pretty
laminated folders. I drew around the dolls and made
patterns for the girls to use to make outfits.

Surfs UP!!

I can tell what is on Superboys mind.. Sun and fun..
Superboys Art still astounds me at times. This is his
latest. On Sunday we were discussing art with
another youth in church. I told him of Superboys
drawing here. The boy I was talking to had just
been suspended for drawing pecks
just as Superboy did. He was suspended from
school for 3 days because the drawing was
considered sexual harassment. It is a sad
world that we live in when we cannot express
free Art. Enjoy your artistic freedoms at home!

Milestones

Sweet Pea is just about 15 Months old.

This morning she surprised me as we were cuddling.
She pointed right to my nose and said the words.
I then asked her where her eyes were and she found
those on her little darling face and then pointed to mine.
She did the same with her mouth but couldn't find
those little ears. I found her ears for her and she giggled.
She is always so happy and smiling.

She has a terrible tummy bug that has had her down
and out for 4 days now. Yet her smile is still in place.
She's such a sweety. Which made me think of how
she has grown and change. How I haven't had the time to
document them. So today... She is learning new things
everyday and here are a few things that make her special.

-Opening our kitchen cabinets
-putting clothes pins into a jar
-LOVES looking at books and pointing to the pictures.
-Cries for Momma when I'm gone.
-Pats your back when you hug her.
-rocks in a rocking chair
- If you ask her to get her doll she does
-She feeds and rocks her dolly
-loves playing with her new kitchen food
-Likes trying on necklaces and bracelets
-Eats mini meals all day. Small snack type foods
-Hates her milk. I have to almost force her to
drink some.
-Is starting to acknowledge when she is wet
-Brushes the hair from her face in a cute way
and does the same to others
-Pretends to talk on the phone and loves cell phones
-Fusses when anyone leaves the room. I think
she is afraid she is missing something.

I am blessed to have all of you to share
in her learning and ability.

FROG Ball

This year I have learned so much about Physical Education
working at Before and After care. I know that the information
I have learned can be valuable to my children and possibly
to other Home Educated families. My hope is to post many
of our gym activities as ideas for your Homeschool gym
classes weather you are in a large group or you and one child.
Each Game activity will be posted with goals, number of children
that can play, supplies and how the game is played.

My first Game post is Called
FROG Ball..
Supplies:

Frog Beach balls or other beach balls- (number needed
depends on number of children playing.)
I bought blow up beach balls shaped like frogs at Oriental
trading company.

Carpet squares- 4-5 (or 1 if playing one on one)

Balls or bean bags

Number of children who can play:

This game can be played in your living room with one
child or in a gym with many children. If playing
with one child you will need 1 bean bag or ball, 1 carpet
and one frog ball. If playing with 6-8 students you will need
about 6 frog balls, 4-5 carpets and enough bean bags or ballsfor each child.

Goals:
Hand eye coordination, motor skills, and
endurance if a runner.

Game 1:
Create your play area by laying down carpets and then
frogs in front of them about a foot apart. You can have them
off at an angle or simplier for younger children and line them
up with the carpets. Each child will stand behind the line or
you can create an invisable line for children to stand behind.
You could use jump ropes as your dividing lines if you need to.
Then your lines can move to create more of a challenge.
Each child recieves a ball. On the go children throw their balls
into the frogs to try and get them to sit onto the carpets.
Children can use bean bags as well.

When playing with a larger group I like to use runners who
retrieve balls and toss them to the thowers. Some
children enjoy this more than the actual game.

Each cild gets points for each frog on the carpets.

Game 2:
Another game that works wonderfully with a
larger group is Frog Battle ball.

Create 2 teams. Sit frogs on dividing line. create a second
line on each side that the balls need to be hit over. (about
2 foot from the center line one on each side) On the go the teams hit
the frogs with balls trying to get them into their opponets playing
area by passing the second line. If a frog passes the line
he is out of play and a point for hitting team.

Live in the Moment

Some days I feel like I am just going through the
motions of life, possibly a slave to my schedule. I
walk through my days thinking of how I will organize
this or maintain that. My thoughts are not on the task
at hand. My mind and body seem to be separate. They
are in different places. My body might be snuggling
my little one but my mind more than likely is planning
my next activity. I miss the here and now. The
simple joy of that moment.

A few years ago I purged everything that I could to
create less clutter to simplify our lives so that I could
enjoy those moments. Yet I still have clutter, mental clutter.
I can drive from point A to point B and not remember the
trip . I can bathe and prepare my hair for work in the morning
and not really see my own face. I can be listening and hearing
my family talk but they are at a distance. I don't always really
hear. My thoughts are always in the future, planning and scheduling.
Sometimes they are in the past too fretting over what I may
have said or done and how I could have redone that situation.

I want to simplify my life not only from stuff but from emotional
clutter. Give it to God has become a mantra in 2010 but
now it's time to push through. God wouldn't want me to ponder
on these things and miss a simple moment. The smell of the
soap in the dish pan, the giggles around me, the beauty
of my girls and the feel of freshly vacuumed carpet. I am
missing those things that bring Joy and closeness to God.
He is in everything.

I began 2011 with the thought to be positive. A family member
passed....think positive, Finances not going very well...think
positive. What I really realized is it isn't just the positive thinking
its was my thoughts busy straightening things out and
they need to be here in the now. Here and now and
think positive. Enjoying Gods moments.

What Can one day hold?

Yesterday was such an odd day. It was
one of those feels like it's never going to end
type of days. You know I often think when I feel
like this that I should be enjoying this day. Instead
I am wishing it away. Did you ever hear the country
song that goes Your going to miss this. You going
to want this day back. I wonder.

I woke with a mild headache. It bothered me all day.
I took some Tylenol but it still was needling and
sometimes rather painful. Nothing could keep me
down though I have to much to do. Especially on
a weekday. I happened to look out the window
as I went to shower and there it was snow.
Now I'm thinking I better hurry so I can leave early
for work. I checked my email to see if there were
any school delays. I didn't see anything so I left.
I get to the school and they are plowing. I wait
and park. As I sit there I hear 2 hour delay. I wonder
If I am supposed to be there or not. I can't
recall from our orientation way back in September
what before care is to do in the event of snow.
I go in at my regular time and find the message
on the phone says I should have stayed home.
I had to laugh at myself since I stressed about
driving in it and now I have to drive back.
Dad and I had a laugh about it.

Later in the morning I call to straighten out
a bank problem and somehow they issued
the money we were supposed to have into daddy's
name. He always likes me to handle things so it's
typically in my name. We have to jog out and
are issued a card in his name to retrieve
the funds. I thought it would take an hour took
5 minutes. We came home had lunch and
then headed out to co-op.

Our co-op was fun and uneventful but I always
feel rushed because we leave 15 min. early
so I can get to after care on time. I drop
the kids off at moms for a visit and head
to work. By now my headache is raging so I
take 2 Tylenol. The kids (after care) were in the
weekend mood but went pretty quickly and
home I could go. I was so ready for Bed.

By 10:00 pm baby wakes me to vomiting.
She seems fine this morning. Hoping it holds.
Do I want that day back. Not so sure about
that one. Amazingly though the kids also
got the basic school lessons completed
math, and Literature.

Today we will possibly venture out in the snow
for some groceries, clean up the house and
I need to grade some papers.

Have a great weekend all.

Noahs Mural Art

The story of Noah is one many children have been
told. It is a tale of disobedience and obedience.
It is of truth, promise and Gods forgiving love.
We learned this day of Gods promise to us and our
promises to him. For this activity I had a group of
about 10 children. I told the story to the children
using a wooden Noah's ark boat with wooden animals
inside. My neighbor was going to throw it out but
I nabbed that little gem. Then each found an animal
to color that I had ben precut from a bible coloring book.
One child wished for dolphins so she created them.
They are located near the bottom left side of the ark.
Children can use the coloring templates or draw their
own animals. As they worked on coloring their pairs
I called a few at a time to help me create a beautiful
hand print ark across the mural. As they finished I
created another small group of helpers who worked
on the ark itself. My Superboy hand drew the ark on
large butcher paper and the other children helped
to color it in. We sat in awe at our board and prayed
by it. In silence we thought of our promises to God,
With a sharpie in hand each child went up and
wrote their promises. The children's ages varied
so they were endearing and some thought out.

I will eat all of my dinner.

I will trust God.

I will love God.

I will listen to my parents.

I will be a good boy.

I will pick up my toys.

I will believe forever.

What is your promise for the new
year and to God eternally?
