Touch Math Cubes

Touch math is a program we have used in the past but has been something we have not used for awhile now. My daughter "Princess" found it very helpful when she was first learning how to add and subtract. The idea behind it was to count points on the numbers to add them together or to subtract from the other instead of the old stand by fingers. An example of the points is on the right on a touch cube. After awhile "Princess" was able to visualize the touch points and in most cases didn't need them anymore. She began to learn the facts from doing them over and over again.
The touch math program is used with addition, subtraction, multiplication and division. However we had less success with the multiplication and division concept. You can learn more about touch math if you visit Recently a touch math magazine came in our mail. In the back was an example of the touch cube above. Looking at this I was thinking that "Spirit" age 3 might enjoy the touch math cubes. I was even more happy to find out that they were free because of touch maths 35th anniversary. You can get the touch cubes by clicking the link above and finding the free/sale button at the top of the page. You will be able to get a free cube per dated until Dec. 2009 . 2010 being their anniversary. Right now eight and nine are available for download. There are also game ideas on the site for playing with your touch cubes. You can print them in color or black and white. I'd suggest using card stock and maybe even laminating them. A bit tricky but doable. There are also free worksheets on the site if you would like to try touch math and see if it is something your child might understand. Have fun counting!!
